Holy Week & Easter Services

Experience Christ’s Victory Over Sin and Death For You!

Experience Christ’s victory over sin and death at a worship service at St. Thomas. Jesus Himself has conquered sin, death, and the grave by His suffering, death, and resurrection—and He still comes to deliver that victory to you in the gathering of His people around His Word and Sacraments. We invite you to join us as we receive the fruits of His triumph and rejoice in the forgiveness, life, and salvation He gives.

Serving Magnolia, The Woodlands, Montgomery County, and beyond.

What are Holy Week and Easter About?

“Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.

—1 Corinthians 15:1-8

Meaning

Holy Week and Easter are about what Jesus has done for you. During Holy Week, we remember His suffering and death on the cross, where He took away our sin. On Easter, we celebrate His resurrection from the dead—His victory over sin, death, and the devil—and the new life He gives.

Purpose

Jesus entered Jerusalem with a purpose: to save us. By His death, He paid for our sins. By His resurrection, He gives us forgiveness, peace with God, and the promise of eternal life. Because of Him, we are no longer ruled by guilt or fear, but are free to live with hope.

Community

You don’t have to face life alone. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus gathers people into His Church—a place where we are cared for, encouraged, and strengthened. Here, we learn to love and serve one another as we grow together in faith.

Ritual

During Holy Week and Easter, we gather for special services that walk us through the story of Jesus’ suffering, death, and resurrection. Through Scripture readings, prayers, and hymns, you will hear and receive the good news of what Christ has done for you—bringing forgiveness, life, and hope.

Whether you are returning to the Easter story or encountering it for the first time, we invite you to join us at St. Thomas this Holy Week and Easter to receive and celebrate the good news of Jesus Christ.

Palm Sunday Divine Service

Join us on Palm Sunday at 9 AM for the Divine Service at St. Thomas Evangelical Lutheran Church in Magnolia. As we remember our Lord’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem, we hear how He comes as our King—humble and riding on a donkey—to accomplish our salvation through His suffering and death.

During this service, we also hear the Passion according to St. Matthew, setting before us the full account of His suffering for our sins. Through Scripture readings, prayer, preaching, and the singing of hymns, Christ comes to serve us with His Word and the gifts of His victory.

  • "Jesus Christ was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification."

    Romans 4:25

  • "Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit."

    1 Peter 3:18

  • "Even when you were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ by forgiving us all our trespasses. God erased the record of our debt brought against us by his legal demands. This record stood against us, but he took it away by nailing it to the cross. After disarming the rulers and authorities, he made a public display of them by triumphing over them in Christ."

A Personal Invitation To Our Holy Week & Easter Services

As the pastor of St. Thomas Evangelical Lutheran Church, I personally invite you to join us for one of our Holy Week or Easter services.

During Holy Week and Easter, we celebrate the central mystery of the Christian faith: that Jesus Christ suffered, died, and rose again for us. By His cross, He has taken away our sin, and by His resurrection, He has conquered death and opened the way to eternal life.

This is a joy worth celebrating, and we would be honored to celebrate it with you. As part of our Holy Week and Easter observance, we invite you to join us as we hear and receive the good news of Christ’s victory, proclaimed and given in His Word and Sacraments.

Come rejoice in the victory Christ Jesus has won for you!
