Our Father in Heaven Protects His Children by Giving His Holy Angels Charge Over Them
We live in “a time of trouble” (Dan. 12:1), in the midst of great tribulation. Satan and his wicked angels have been thrown out of heaven and have come down to earth “in great wrath,” with woeful “temptations to sin” and with constant accusations (Rev. 12:8–12; Matt. 18:7). Even so, we are encouraged by the presence and protection of St. Michael and the holy angels, whom God sends to help us in the strife (Dan. 10:11–13). By “the authority of his Christ,” His holy angels guard and keep us in body and soul. These heavenly servants of God preserve His human messengers on earth, the ministers of “the blood of the Lamb,” against all the power of the enemy, for by “the word of their testimony,” the Church is saved and the devil is defeated (Rev. 12:10–11; Luke 10:18–19). By their preaching and Baptism of repentance, the old Adam and the old evil foe are “drowned in the depth of the sea” (Matt. 18:6). As God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, so are His people delivered and raised from the dust of the earth through the forgiveness of their sins (Dan. 12:1–3).
Prayer for the Feast of St. Michael and All Angels
Heavenly Father, according to Your most holy, revealed will and Word, You especially ordain the angels that they would help preserve the pure, saving teaching of Your holy Gospel, to be Your messengers and watchers of Your Christian congregation, our praiseworthy polity, rulers, land, people, and dominions, and especially to accompany Your believers, to look after their possessions, honor, goods, and dwellings, to be joyful over repentant sinners, and to accompany those who depart this vale of misery to the kingdom of Your grace with joyful protection. Therefore, we heartily beseech You to send Your holy angels also among us for such use, that, as faithful watchers, they would camp around our dear fatherland, churches, schools, city halls, bodily sustenance, dealings, trade, and workplaces. Charge them according to Your almighty command, that they would bear us on their hands, that they would act for us against the murderer, the devil, when we are sleeping or awake, eating or drinking, or doing anything else, that they would preserve us unto the praise and honor of Your name, drive us toward what is good, and steer and direct us away from evil. We especially ask that they may render their faithful service to our poor souls in the hour when they must depart from this vale of misery, that they would guide them into the bosom of Abraham, into the number of Your elect, through Jesus Christ, Your Son, who has obtained such an abode for us through His bitter suffering and death and has most costly purchased us for Your eternal kingdom. Amen.

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHTS | From LCMS Stewardship Ministry
Revelation 12:7 – “And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought.” The holy angels faithfully serve God, defending His people and carrying out His will. Their warfare reminds us that the Christian life is not neutral but a daily battle against sin, the world, and the devil. As stewards of God’s gifts, we are called to join in this fight—not with swords, but with faith, prayer, and generous service. Our giving of time, talent, and treasure is part of God’s work of guarding His Church and advancing His Kingdom.
